British singer Ed Sheeran sang a few lyrics from one of his songs and played a few chords on a guitar for a New York jury, hoping to hit the right notes with a jury deciding whether the song violates the copyrights of Marvin Gaye's soul classic “Let's Get It On.”
Sheeran was the first witness called by the defense Thursday after the heirs of Ed Townsend, Gaye's co-writer on the 1973 hit, finished presenting their arguments that their copyrights were infringed by Sheeran's “Thinking Out Loud.” The trial enters its second week on Monday, when Sheeran is expected to resume his testimony.
