Ecuador presidential candidate Luisa Gonzalez prepares for election day

On April 13, Ecuador held its Presidential runoff election between incumbent President Daniel Noboa and left-wing challenger Luisa González. González, representing the Citizen Revolution party and supported by former President Rafael Correa, has emphasized social spending and crime reduction in her campaign.

She proposes hiring 20,000 new police officers and utilizing state reserves for social initiatives. The election is highly competitive, with polls indicating a tight race and approximately 20% of voters still undecided.  Both candidates are deploying tens of thousands of observers to monitor the election, amid fears of potential fraud.
