Ecuador National Assembly supports impeaching Lasso

The plenary session of the National Assembly of Ecuador decided Saturday with a majority of votes to support a report by a legislative commission that recommends impeachment and dismissal of President Guillermo Lasso, whom they accuse of alleged crimes against state security, among others.

The resolution was adopted with the vote of 104 legislators in favor of the impeachment, 18 against, and three abstentions, out of 125 presents of the total of 137 assembly members. This decision doesn't imply an immediate process against Lasso, but the process continues towards a new instance by the Legislative Administration Council. If it's approved, it must be sent to the Constitutional Court, which will finally decide if it meets the formal requirements to prosecute Lasso.
