Ecuador armed forces destroy seized weapons in Guayaquil

Ecuadorian Armed Forces, coordinated by the Arms Control Division, destroyed 3,337 firearms seized in various operations at the national level, including in prisons and areas controlled by organized crime gangs. According to information, more than 4,566 firearms were seized in 2023 alone.

Due to the escalation of violence, on January 9th, Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa officially declared internal armed conflict against transnational criminal terrorist organizations, marking an unprecedented situation for the country.
