At least 15 people have been confirmed to have contracted the deadly Ebola virus in the Ugandan capital, Kampala.
Kampala becomes the sixth district to confirm the presence of the virus in the country, a worrisome increase in infections just over a month after an outbreak was declared in a remote part of the East African country.
The announcement provoked mixed reactions among the Ugandan business community that is recovering from a prolonged COVID pandemic lockdown.
Many shop owners are worried about another lockdown should cases continue to increase. Uganda has, in the past, been praised for its handling of epidemics and pandemics. It imposed some of the strictest measures to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus and in effect managed to prevent a high death rate projection. There is no proven vaccine for the Sudan strain of Ebola that’s circulating in Uganda.
