e-Government: Vice President Attends The Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony of e-Government Conference and ICT Exhibition 2018 was held at MICC-2 in Nay Pyi Taw on 27th November with the attendance of Vice President U Myint Swe.

During his opening remark, the Vice President stressed that the e-Government Leading Committee has been formed with the leadership of State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi in order to implement the e-Government successfully.

And the e-Government Leading Committee has been carrying out the tasks by laying down five duties. Otherwise, for the effective and successful implementation of the e-Government Leading Committee, the e-Government Working Committee, the e-ID Working Committee and eight sub-committees were also formed.

The Vice President said the e-Government can support the work flow and decision making of the government through ICT and can provide easy access services and needs of the public transparently. It can also assist the connection among the government, public, government personnel and business entrepreneurs.

And the e-Government can drive the developing country to the developed one and maintain sustainable development and play a vital role in poverty reduction. Myanmar ranked up 157 in 2018 UN e-Government Indicator while stood at 169 of 193 countries last year.

The Vice President also emphasized that the communication network between infrastructure and Ministries have built up and National Web Portal could be opened in September this year. The works are underway to implement State-owned data center and specialized trainings are being conducted.

The e-Government Laws were also enacted and the ratification of Cyber Law is also in process. The Vice President also pointed out that the Open Government, Competent Government, Information Sharing, Service-oriented Government and ICT Development are literally needed to implement the e-Government.

The e-Government Conference and ICT Exhibition 2018 was jointly held by e-Government Leading Committee, Ministry of Transport and Communications, Myanmar Computer Federation and Computer Association. The Vice Chairmen of e-Government Leading Committee, Union Minister U Thaung Tun, Union Minister U Thant Sin Maung, Chairman of Myanmar Computer Federation U Khun Oo, Huawei Co., Ltd CEO Mr. Liman Zhang, Ease Net Co., Ltd CEO U Kyaw Moe Naing formally opened the e-Government Conference and ICT Exhibition 2018.

Then, Vice President U Myint Swe took documentary photo together with the participants and looked around the booths in the exhibition. In the afternoon session, the talk on “Road to Digital Myanmar” was conducted. The e-Government Conference and ICT Exhibition 2018 will last till 28th November.
