According to ABC15, Arizona Monsoon storms began to pop up around 4 p.m. and by 6 p.m. a huge wall of dust took aim on Chandler and the South Mountain areas. The wall of dust, which some call a haboob, was roughly 50 miles wide and up to 6,000 feet tall.
ABC15 Arizona said that more than 11,000 power outages were reported as the storm passed through. The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of the East Valley, including Chandler, Gilbert and Apache Junction. It expired at 6:30 p.m, and no rain storms came through. However, some parts of San Tan Valley got a few hundredths of an inch of rain.
