Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi visited flood-hit central Italy late on Friday, promising an initial aid package of $5 million to support the flood victims.

Speaking in Ostra, Draghi said his visit to the Marche region was to show his "solidarity" and to hear the "profound" testimonies from mayors of impacted towns.

The premier said intense work would be needed to rebuild people's confidence to live in areas at risk from more extreme weather brought on by climate change.
