






A donation ceremony was held in Nay Pyi Taw on Tuesday to provide assistance in the rescue and relief efforts in the quake-hit areas. Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing attended the ceremony, and gave a speech, expressing his appreciation to those who contribute for the rescue operations while providing humanitarian assistance in the areas affected by the powerful earthquake.
He explained the ongoing efforts for rescue and relief measures, along with the reconstruction of damaged infrastructures. The Prime Minister mentioned that the government has established 500 billion kyat for rescue and relief measures which have been under implementation.
In carrying out the rehabilitation works, the initial step will start with clearing the debris, followed by restoring of communication channels, and clearing the partially collapsed buildings with potential risk. The next step is for reconstruction of transportation infrastructures and public buildings, along with the rehabilitation works.
He also pledged to provide assistance for claiming the building insurance and private construction works. The Prime Minister stressed the need to strive for boosting production and agricultural works as well as achieving peace and stability in order to carry out the rehabilitation works effectively.
This was followed by donations of cash and kinds by the donors and well-wishers to assist in the relief and rehabilitation works in the quake-hit areas. A total of 104.44 billion kyat cash assistance was received during the ceremony. In addition, well-wishers contributed 12.4 billion kyat worth of donated items, making the total amount to 116.84 billion kyat.
