Donation Ceremony: Gold Foils offered to Shwemokhtaw Maha Pagoda

The offering of gold foils to the historic Shwemokhtaw Maha Pagoda and its surrounding cetis in Pathein of Ayeyawady Region is being undertaken starting, December 21st 2023. A donation ceremony for offering gold coil was held for the first time at the pagoda on Saturday.
During the ceremony, Commander of Southwest Command Brig-Gen Wai Lin presented cash donation, contributed by Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, on his behalf.
Chief Minister U Tin Maung Win, the Commander and well-wishers also made cash donations. The Shwemokhtaw Maha Pagoda was donated by King Sri Dhamma Shoka of Pataliputra (India) under the title Shwe Arnar.
King Alaung Sithu renovated the pagoda and conferred Htupayon Title. The pagoda was later renamed as Shwemokhtaw pagoda. The previous offering of gold foils to Shwemokhtaw pagoda and 11 surrounding cetis was carried out for four months from December 2018 to April 2019.
