Dominican Republic plans to launch a 'rocket or satellite' in 2028

The Dominican Republic planned to launch a satellite or rocket into space before May 2028 and transform the country into a technology hub, President Luis Abinader announced on Friday during his annual State of the Nation address.

Abinader stated that he reached a "historic agreement" of $600 million after three years of negotiations with technology company, LOD Holdings LTD. He also noted that the country signed an agreement for more than $500 million with Google for the construction of the first international digital exchange hub in Latin America and only the eighth in the world.

He also emphasized that the country is following the path of technology, artificial intelligence, the future of work, and the next-generation economy.
