Dominican Republic-Haiti canal border dispute

The Dominican Republic closed its border to Haiti in the northern Dajabon province on September 15, amid a dispute over a canal construction in Haiti accessing a shared river.

The crossing between Haiti’s Ouanaminthe and Dajabon is one of few remaining locations where the border remained open amid heightened security by the Dominican Republic over worsening gang-violence in the neighbour state. The Dominican Republic says the construction of the canal diverting water from the Massacre River had been started without its approval.
