A reinforced concrete bridge on the Yangon-Mawlamyine Union Highway was destroyed by a blast early Friday morning, halting transportation.

At around 4:15 a.m., members of the KNLA and PDF planted explosives on the 10-foot-long and 40-foot-wide bridge in Thaton Township, causing complete structural damage. Road and Bridge Department officials quickly provided a temporary bridge, allowing public transportation to resume by around 9:00 a.m.

The attack, committing a war crime, targeted a non-military structure with the intent to disrupt public transportation and create regional instability, causing widespread panic among residents.

This incident is part of terrorist acts, with six explosions reported along the Yangon-Mawlamyine Union Highway in 2024. Security forces are conducting counter-terrorism operations, and efforts are underway to expedite the repair of the damaged bridge.
