Disaster Reduction: MoSWRR Union Minister attends training opening

Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief, and Resettlement Dr. Soe Win, who is currently in Kengtung of Shan State, on Wednesday attended the opening ceremony of the youth volunteer (secondary) training for natural disaster reduction at the Town Hall.

At the event, the Union Minister stressed that the training is to respond to natural disasters, to identify the youth power in communities and help the youth become the ones who can lead natural disaster reduction activities. The training is designed to cover such courses as natural disaster prevention and emergency warning systems, emergency response, initial needs of surveys, distribution of relief equipment, and relief camp management, he added.

The Union Minister also urged trainees to try hard to protect their areas from natural disasters. This 3-day training is joined by 50 trainees. On Thursday, the Union Minister met with departmental personnel of Kengtung district under the Ministry, clarified the guidelines of the Prime Minister and the actual situation of the state, and fulfilled the requirements submitted by the departmental personnel.
