Disaster Preparedness: Rakhine State efforts for disaster response

On 15th September, Rakhine State Disaster Management Committee held its work coordination meeting at the state government office with the attendance of Chairman of the Committee Chief Minister U Htein Lin.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister stressed the damage and losses across the nation due to Typhoon Yagi. At present, a depression in southeast Bay of Bengal has strengthened to a storm and it’s expected to experience consecutive rainfall and heavy waves and storm tide within the state.

Since Rakhine State is one of the disaster-prone areas, he stressed the need to carry out necessary precaution measures promptly with the collaborative efforts of the committee members and departmental officials.

The Chief Minister also stressed for regular reporting of flood condition, household relocation, opening of relief camps as well as the difficulties encountered during rescue and relief aids provision measures.

Then, the matters on systematic information delivery on disaster circumstances, precaution and rescue measures as well as raising public awareness were discussed respectively. The meeting was concluded with the closing remarks of the Chief Minister.
