




The Natural Disaster Management Committee held an emergency meeting on Saturday afternoon at the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement in Nay Pyi Taw.
In his address, Chairman of the Committee Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council Vice Senior General Soe Win stressed that according to the forecast, on May 8th, the low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal will turn into a very strong cyclonic storm and cross the area between Yangon Region and Ayeyawaddy Region or the coast.
It is estimated that the path of the storm entering the coastal region is likely to be 2 – the path between Pyapon Township and Kunchangone Township of Yangon Region and between Sittwe Township and Kyaukphyu Township after passing the Rakhine coast.
It is predicted that the storm will hit Myanmar on May 13th and 14th. It is necessary to start preparing the procedures to be carried out in case of a storm. Cooperation among the disaster management committees, volunteers, Tatmadaw, governmental departments and the public is very important, the Vice Senior General added.
And, the meeting continued with preparations for response, rescue and cooperation, storm warnings issuance in a timely manner through the state media and communication operators, shelters and aid.
