Disaster Management: Myanmar joins the 12th AMMDM in Brunei

Myanmar delegation led by Dr. Soe Win, Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement attended the 12th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management-AMMDM and related meeting hosted in Brunei.

On the 24th of October, the meeting discussed various topics including the successful holding of Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in the Philippines, provision of humanitarian assistance to Myanmar by ASEAN Secretariat, information sharing for natural disaster by the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre) during 2024, joint training programs between the Emergency Operation Centers among ASEAN member states, stockpiling of provisions at the ASEAN Warehouses, implementations of work processes for ASEAN Agreement on Disaster Management, annual financial report, and plan for signing MOU with the AHA Centre.

This was followed by ASEAN-China Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management, where the attendees discussed the establishment of ASEAN-China Emergency Operation Center, signing of MOU for cooperation, implementation of ASEAN Agreement on Disaster Management and Emergency Response (AADMER) Work Programme, and ASEAN-China Work Plan on Disaster Management.

At the ASEAN-Japan Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management, the attendees discussed the implementation of disaster management plans.

During the ASEAN-Korea Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management, the participants discussed the disaster management plans and adoption of joint press statement.

Union Minister Dr Soe Win also joined the signing ceremony of MoUs between India, Germany, European Union and AHA Centre to implement AADMER Work Program.
