The Disaster Management Department under the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement launched a Disaster Alert Notification-DAN Application in Nay Pyi Taw on Thursday.
The application was developed for the people across the country, and it was upgraded with the fund provided by the UNDP and ECHO.
Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Win Myat Aye said that the application would help the mobile phone users to get access to critical weather information so that they can carry out preparedness measures and it could lead to reducing the losses in the event of disasters affecting them. The Union Minister added that about 87 per cent of the total households of Myanmar uses mobile phones. It means about 40 million people have got access to internet, and thus, raising awareness through mobile phones will be very effective.
The Application can also be used by the persons with disabilities and is available on the Google Play Store or Apple Store for download. The app also allows the users to get information and to send information. The Department of Disaster Management encourages all the people to download this app to become more readiness for any emergencies and disasters.
Dissemination about DAN Application and introducing it to the people will be carried out in Regions and States during next week.
