






Magway Region Government organized a ceremony marking the Internnational Women’s Day with the theme, “Digit All: Innovation and technology for gender equality” at the city hall in Magway on Wednesday. Magway Region Chief Minister Thiri Pyanchi U Tint Lwin, the regional Union Ministers, patron of the Region Women’s Sports Federation, members, members of the Region Women’s Affairs Committee, departmental heads and invited guests attended the ceremony.
At the event, the Region Chief Minister said that this year’s theme highlights the importance of protecting the rights of women and girls in the digital world while raising awareness on widening equalities in the economic and social fields due to the different opportunities between women and men in access to technology and the internet and the importance of addressing the gender-based violence by using online and information technology.
In today's world, the main problems such as environmental protection, the role of women in human rights and population conservation is very important. In order to carry out these matters, women's literacy, intelligence, comprehensive development and high qualification are needed and the gender equality must be enhanced in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Department of Social Welfare is implementing development of women’s life and their safety by laying down plans and for the women’s development, the vocational trainings and 6 One Stop Women Support Centers (OSWSC) have been opened in Yangon, Mandalay, Mawlamyaing, Lashio, Loikaw and Sagaing to provide shelters and services for women and young girls experiencing all forms of violence including domestic violence.
Arrangements are being made to open the OSWSC in Magway Region. The Chief Minister also called for social organizations, private sector, people and women in implementing women development tasks together with the Government.
Later, a video clip on implementations of women development was shown and the young girls from the Region Sports and Physical Education Department entertained with Zumba dance. The Region Chief Minister then presented honoraria to the entertainment troupes.
