The Kachin State Government is making significant strides towards achieving food sufficiency and the development of the PutaO area. As part of these efforts, local residents are being encouraged to engage in livestock and agricultural activities, supported by the State Economic Development Fund.
In Machanbaw Township, Namkham Village has been designated as a Fish Breeding Zone. Currently, about 100,000 fingerlings are being raised across five breeding farms. Additionally, poultry and piglets are being bred to ensure a sufficient supply of local consumption.
For agricultural development, orchard farms are being established near Inbuubawt Village, with grapefruit and other crops being cultivated on an 11-acre land area. To further support the expansion of livestock and agricultural projects in PutaO and Machanbaw Districts, 675 million kyats in cash assistance were provided on May 25th as the second phase of funding from the State Economic Development Fund.
Simultaneously, due to the inability of cargo trucks to travel along the Myitkyina-Sumbrabon-PutaO road section because of regional circumstances, food supplies were distributed to service personnel and the local community in PutaO District. The Kachin State Government arranged for these supplies to be delivered by air. The first phase of distribution included essential items such as rice, dried fish, and edible oil.
