

Chief Minister of Rakhine State U Htein Lin met with Indian Ambassador to Myanmar Abhay Thakur during the later’s visit to Sittwe of Rakhine State from 16 to 17 January.
During the meeting, they discussed matters related to bilateral development cooperation projects as well as capacity building and humanitarian assistance under the bilateral Rakhine State Development Program, in line with local needs and priorities.
Both sides agreed that in the years ahead, the Sittwe Port, an India-Myanmar Friendship Project, will help strengthen coastal, regional and international connectivity, as well as enhance travel and tourism, particularly in the context of the age-old civilizational and people-to-people connect between the two countries.
The Ambassador emphasized the importance of early return to peace and stability that would pave the way for exploiting the full potential of the Kaladan Multi Modal Transit Transport Corridor (KMMTTC) Project.
During the visit, the Ambassador visited the Sittwe Port of the GOI-assisted KMMTTC Project and reviewed its ongoing operations. Since its inauguration in May 2023, the Sittwe Port has handled more than 150 vessels, carrying cargoes of food, agriculture commodities, medicines, fuel, vehicles, construction material, machinery, equipment, etc.
