Development Programs: India’s assistance for sustainable development

The inauguration ceremony of new projects completed under the Border Areas Development Program (BADP) and Rakhine State Development Programme (RSDP)projects was held in Nay Pyi Taw on 5th and 6th December respectively.

The BADP projects were inaugurated by Union Minister for Border Affairs Lt-Gen TunTunNaung along with Ambassador Abhay Thakur while the RSDP projects by Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Soe Win along with the Ambassador.

Under the framework of the BADP and RSDP, the Government of India, under the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding, provides financial assistance through a grant-in-aid of US$ 5 million per annum. These projects are aimed at enhancing infrastructure and improving the quality of life in various sectors including water supply, healthcare. electricity, road construction, school construction, and education.

This collaborative effort underscores the commitment of both governments to uplift and empower the communities in the border areas including the Sagaing region, Chin state and Rakhine state, ensuring sustainable development and better living conditions of people.
