Development of Fisheries: Myanmar to host 55th Council Meeting of SEAFDEC

Myanmar is going to host the 55th Council Meeting of Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) this year. On 9th and 11th of May, the online meeting was held at VMS center of Fisheries Department under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation.

For year of 2023-24, director general of the Fisheries Department U Wai Ling Maung was appointed as the council alternate chairman and secretary-general reported the implementation works done in 2022. Reporting the results of 45th Project Committee and 25th Meeting of the Fisheries Consultative Group of the ASEAN-SEAFDEC Strategic Partnership were also conducted.

Likewise, fighting against Illegal fishing and monitoring systems, regional plan of action on sustainable utilization of pelagic Tuna species in ASEAN regions, CITES related activities, actions of combating the trash pieces and abandoned/loss fishing gears in Maritime Southeast Asia, ongoing implementation projects, collaborative efforts between international organizations, monitoring the implementation works on Sustainable Fisheries for Food Security for the ASEAN Region Towards 2030, discussing on the basic information facts collected in 2021, using of research vessels, JTF projects proposal and participation works in International Monitoring, Control and Surveillance Network were among the discussion also, it’s learnt.
