Development of agricultural sector: SAC Chairman addressed the coordination meeting

It’s believed to surge the development of the country’s economy if the reforming in agricultural sector can be carried out. So, the discussion needs to focus on the promotion of the country’s economy by accelerating capacity of agriculture, was said by the Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing at the meeting on promotion of agricultural capability held at the Nawarat Hall of the Department of Agricultural Research in Zayyarthiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw Council area in the afternoon on May 10.

In his opening remark, the SAC Chairman said the meeting is to discuss and coordinate for the development of agricultural sector which plays the vital role of the country’s economy. During the meeting, the work requirements should be discussed frankly, the attendees of this meeting are the competent persons in the related sector.

As the development of the agricultural sector is crucial for the development of the country’s economy, it’s placed at the priority. According to the 2019 census, the 45% of population is associating with the agriculture, livestock breeding. So, if the development of agriculture and livestock breeding sectors can be implemented, the life of rural population will dramatically improve.

The SAC Chairman also pointed out the rice cultivation acres including monsoon paddy acreage, per acre yielding of monsoon paddy in last year and needs to put efforts to yield more monsoon paddy, requirement to cultivate other crops at about 4 million acres of vacant land, expansion of cotton plantation, oil crops for the sufficiency of domestic consumption, various beans and pulses, requirement of adequate irrigation system etc.

Next, the SAC member Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister Admiral Tin Aung San clarified the plans for the sufficient irrigation required for the promotion of agricultural capability in regions and states including Nay Pyi Taw. Then, the Union Minister for Agriculture, livestock and Irrigation U Min Naung explained the status of agricultural production in 2022-2023 fiscal year and the plans for the promotion of agricultural capability in 2023-2024 fiscal year.  Next, Union Minister U Hla Moe, U Thaung Han and U Myo Myint Oo clarified the related sectors.

Then, the Chairman of Nay Pyi Taw Council, Chief Ministers of regions and states reported implementation for the promotion of agricultural capability and regional food security and the plans to be implemented for the agricultural development. Afterward, the responsible officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation and the Ministry of Cooperative and Rural Development clarified the work implementations of relevant sectors.

In responding to the clarifications and reports, the SAC Chairman Prime Minister gave necessary instructions and delivered a speech of conclusion.
