Desperate Sudanese hope for evacuation to Jeddah

Hundreds of evacuees hoping to escape the fighting in Sudan have flocked to Port Sudan in the hope of getting safe passage by boat to the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah. British consular services had opened a base at the port, where families and children awaited their fate.

The British Foreign Office had advised nationals to go there if they needed help leaving Sudan.Outside the makeshift British consulate, people camped out in the hot sun, patiently waiting for a chance to board a chartered ship to Jeddah.
