Deportation Process: Crackdown on online fraud cases

Foreign nationals from some neighboring countries, including Thailand, have been illegally entering Myanmar through border routes via transit points, committing crimes such as online gambling and online fraud in areas like Myawaddy-Shwe Kokko, Mae Htaw Tha Lay, Min Lat Pan, and KK Park.

These individuals have been identified, investigated, and systematically deported. On March 18, 169 Indonesian nationals, 19 Bangladeshi nationals, and 1 Japanese national, totaling 189 individuals, were deported to their respective countries through the Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Bridge No. 2. This process was carried out with humanitarian consideration and in the spirit of friendly international relations, in accordance with legal procedures.

Additionally, 242 other foreign nationals have been further identified and detained. Initially, Kayin State Government Minister for Security and Border Affairs Colonel Min Thu Kyaw, oversaw and inspected the process to ensure the systematic and smooth deportation of these foreign nationals to their respective countries. He met with relevant departmental officials and provided necessary instructions to facilitate the operation.

Subsequently, a deportation handover ceremony was held, attended by Kayin State Government Minister for Security and Border Affairs, along with other officials; Mr. Md. Fahad Pervez Bosunia, Counselor from the Bangladeshi Embassy in Thailand, accompanying officials; Mr. Judha Nugraha, Director of the Citizen Protection and Rescue Department of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, accompanying officials; Mr. Naoto Watanabe, First Secretary of the Japanese Embassy in Thailand, accompanying officials; as well as officials from the Tak Province Immigration Office in Thailand.

Myanmar officials systematically handed over deportation-related documents to the representatives of the respective countries. Similarly, 180 Chinese nationals and 62 Ethiopian nationals, who had illegally entered and resided in Myawaddy Township KK Park area through unauthorized routes, were identified and detained on March 18. Efforts are underway to collect their personal information and records to expedite their deportation to their respective countries, with coordinated actions being carried out by relevant departmental officials.

From January 30, to March 18, 2025, a total of 7,107 foreign nationals who illegally entered Myanmar were identified and detained. Of these, 4,191 have been systematically transferred to their respective countries via Thailand in accordance with legal procedures. The remaining 2,916 foreign nationals are ready to be deported to their home countries and are being well cared for in detention.

The detained foreign nationals hail from countries including China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Pakistan, India, Uganda, Ethiopia, Nepal, Thailand, Rwanda, Kenya, Kazakhstan, Cambodia, Ghana, Bangladesh, Japan, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Tunisia, Algeria, Congo, Cameroon, and Taipei (China). The majority are Chinese nationals, according to the reports.
