As the number of dengue cases continues to rise in Sunsari, the eastern district of Nepal and the surrounding areas, the existing medical facilities such as the 'central emergency' and 'dengue clinic,' are no longer sufficient to handle the situation.

Eighty-five percent of beds in the hospital's ward are occupied by dengue patients. Following the rise report, the number of dengue infected patients has reached 5,688 from 70 of Nepal’s total 77 districts. Eight people have died as of now.

On 15th of July there were 2,930 dengue infected patients reported from across the country. Ten districts have seen the highest cases of infection among which Sunsari, the eastern district has been the most hit. Dengue virus spreads among people through the bite of an infected Aedes species of mosquito.
