Democrats united in calling Trump a racist but split

Democratic presidential candidates debating on Monday were united in their condemnation of the president but differed in their views on slavery reparations for African-Americans. Like Williamson, Senator Elizabeth Warren also supports the federal government issuing reparations to black Americans who were economically affected by slavery. Senator Bernie Sanders also took aim at Trump's immigration policies.

Progressive ideas on healthcare, immigration and climate change took a beating as moderate candidates sounded the alarm that going too far left would cost Democrats the White House. On the first night of back-to-back debates, Democrats were united in stressing the urgency of defeating Republican President Donald Trump in the November 2020 election. But they delivered bruising analysis of their party rivals' positions as detailed policy disputes dominated the nearly three-hour event.
