Defendant sentenced to life in prison for killing former Japanese Prime Minister Abe. A Japanese district court has sentenced the man charged with fatally shooting former Prime Minister Abe Shinzo to life behind bars. Abe was delivering an election campaign speech when the incident took place.

The court said it did not accept that the defendant’s unfortunate upbringing played a significant role in his decision to carry out the murder.
