Deepavali Festival: SAC Chairman attends the celebration in Yangon

Hindu community in Myanmar celebrated the Deepavali Festival at National Theatre in Yangon on Saturday.

The celebration was graced by Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and wife, high ranking officials, diplomats in Yangon, Senior Military Officials, social organizations, cultural troupes and invited guests.

After the ceremonial ribbon cutting at the archway, the Prime Minister and wife were welcomed to the celebration according to the Hindu traditional rituals. Then, the Prime Minister and the Indian Ambassador to Myanmar formally opened the celebration, and took a tour to the booths displayed by the Hindu Associations and tribal groups.

In the subsequent ceremony held in the Theatre, the Prime Minister and wife took part in lighting oil lamp as a gesture to commemorate Deepavali, and received the auspicious shawl and garland. This was followed by entertainment programs, featuring variety of cultural performances.

Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing made a remarks, expressing his appreciation for collective participation of all Hinduism, residing in Myanmar, which highlights the unity among diversity in the community. He extended wishes, calling all citizens to share love, respect and understanding among others and participate in the efforts for peace and prosperity of the country and the world through cooperation and collaboration.

After exchanging commemorative gifts, the Indian Ambassador gave commemorative speech. The attendees later enjoyed the traditional cultural performances and enjoyed the dinner, commemorating the Deepavali Celebration.
