On Friday, a series of landslides struck a Rubaya mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo, burying people alive and killing several. The M23 militia group had captured the Rubaya mine in North Kivu province in April 2024. It is learnt that the slide had been deadly and some bodies have been found.

But an exact number of dead bodies and survivors have not been known. Dozens of scavengers were still shoveling away at the vast site of Rubaya mine.
