A deadly crash occurred in southwestern South Korea on Sunday when Jeju Air flight 7C2216 from Bangkok, crash-landed at an airport in Muan, 290km south of Seoul. The aircraft, carrying 175 passengers and six crew members, skidded along the runway on its belly before catching fire. At least 177 people are confirmed dead, with only two survivors—both crew members.
The plane had made a second attempt at landing after its landing gear failed to deploy. The National Fire Agency sent 32 fire trucks and several helicopters to contain the fire. The death toll is expected to rise, making this South Korea's deadliest aviation disaster since the 1997 Korean Airlines crash.
