Dam Safety Measures: General Assembly of National Committee on Large Dams

Myanmar National Committee on Large Dams held its General Assembly in Yangon on July 5th. Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Bo Bo Kyaw made an opening speech, highlighting the severe climatic condition that brings the damages to natural water resources and losses of crop yields, impacting the effort for food sufficiency.

The Deputy Minister urged all to emphasize the work plans to mitigate water scarcity, while implementing for dam safety measures for long term durability of the existing dams. The gathering saw the selection and appointment of new Executive Committee members, and presentation of research papers on Climate Change Adaptation on Dam Safety and Managing the Utilization of Myitnge River Basin Focused.
