The Khenes Dam in Iraq overflowed on Wednesday due to heavy rainfall in the Kurdish region, which began on Monday. The new dam, which is 34.5 meters high and holds a total capacity of 6.7 million cubic meters, is vital for farming activity in nearby villages that previously struggled with recurrent droughts.

Abundant rainfall and water from the Gomel Su River have collected in the dam, which has led the dam to burst its banks and flooding the local areas. The region, home to vast farms, boasts some of the largest agricultural areas in northern Iraq.Farmers rely on the dam's water to maintain agriculture in the area. The dam's reservoir is also used to provide villagers with drinking water.
