Cyclone Dana made landfall on India’s eastern coast as a severe storm, uprooting trees with torrential rains and strong winds. At least 1.1 million people in the states of Odisha and West Bengal were evacuated to storm shelters before the powerful cyclone made landfall. Dana was weakened into a cyclonic storm by forenoon and moved further into northern Odisha, the Indian Meteorological Department said.
