Cusco faces fuel shortage due to road blockades

Long queues of people waited outside a petrol station that was still open in Cusco on Thursday. Road blockades have caused shortages throughout Peru, amid a wave of protests and political unrest.Most of the petrol stations in the popular tourist city, that's the gateway to Machu Picchu, have closed their doors, leaving signs saying there’s no fuel or gas.

Protests and roadblocks against President Dina Boluarte’s government have been happening in various regions of the Andean country for more than a month.Cusco is running out not only of fuel but also of basic food items, which has meant many restaurants, hotels, shops have closed.
