The opening ceremony of 24th ASEAN Cultural Subcommittee Meeting hosted by Myanmar organized by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture was held at Novotel Yangon Max Hotel Pyay Room in the morning on Tuesday with the presence of Union Minister U Tin Oo Lwin, Deputy Minister Daw Nu Mra Zan, Yangon Region Government Social Affairs Minister, Yangon Mayor, head of mission from the embassies of ASEAN countries, representatives and invited guests.
At the ceremony, the Union Minister said that the 24th ASEAN Cultural Subcommittee Meeting is held with the aims at the interests of the people of ASEAN region as well as preserving the peace, stability and prosperity in the region. Since the time of establishment of ASEAN Cultural and Information Committee in 1978, the cultural and information sector plays the crucial role to promote the productive cooperation. Myanmar hosted subcommittee’s meeting for three times including 4th meeting in 2002, 14th meeting in 2013 and this 24th meeting is the third time.
In accordance with a member of ASEAN, Myanmar has intended to gain the objectives of foundering ASEAN community including peace and prosperity together with the ASEAN member countries.
Then, the 24th ASEAN Cultural Subcommittee Meeting was continued at Pyay Hall and attended by the Director General of the Department of Historical Research and National Library Presiding person of the subcommittee meeting, representatives from Myanmar, ASEAN Secretariat and ASEAN countries and the completed projects regarding cultural sector implementing in the ASEAN Region, ongoing projects and the new projects to be submitted for 2024-2025 fiscal year were discussed and approved.
In the evening, the Union Minister hosted dinner of honor for the representatives from the ASEAN countries at Pathein Hall of Novotel Yangon Max Hotel. The students from the University of Fine Arts (Yanogn) presented Myanmar traditional songs and dances during the dinner.
After the ceremony, the Union Minister presented memorable gifts to the representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat and ASEAN countries and the cash of honor to the students.
