





The 24th Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competition of Yangon West Zone was opened at the Myanmar Convention Center (MCC) in Yangon on Tuesday.
Contestants participated in the oldies and classical song singing contests, Myanmar traditional musical instruments playing contests including Myanmar orchestra (Sai Waing), the dancing contests and Myanmar’s traditional puppet competition.
Okkar ,Chairman ,Competition Organizing Committee (District Level) said " There are14 districts and we divided into 5 zones this year. We could organize the competitions in a grand manner year after year with the cooperation of township administrators and senior artistes of Thabin and Music Associations. The veteran artistes support a lot and with their guidelines and instructions, we have arranged the competitions to be better year after year."
In the 1st day competition, singing and dancing contests were held and the song composing and musical instruments playing contests are continued on the 2nd day event.
Thuta Aung, Contestant said " I participate in the dancing contest this year. I won the gold medal last year. Only when we preserve the traditional cultural performing arts, it can be handed over to new generations."
Pa Pa Hlaing ,Contestant said " I have prepared for the competition and practiced a lot. I have confidence to win in the contest and I will try the best as much as I can."
Novi Moe ,Contestant said " I will compete in the 2nd class amateur level singing contest. The songs are based on classical music. I think the classical music is profound so that I am interested in it."
Than Zaw Aung ,Contestant said " In regard with song composing, we don’t know what kind of song to compose in the contest. We have to write the songs depending on the titles that are given to us. "
The competition was held on 12th and 13th September for two days and 137contestants participate in the 2-day event and after the competition, the awarding ceremony would be held.
