Cuban authorities received this weekend 133 repatriated migrants who were trying to reach the United States in a record migration season for the Caribbean nation.

Cuban state television reported that the United States Coast Guard handed over 90 people in the Port of Orozco, Bahia Honda in the western province of Artemisa, while a flight from Nassau landed with another 43. According to the migratory agreements, Cuba does not take any retaliatory measure against returnees, allowing them to go back to their homes in their respective provinces. So far this year, the United States Coast Guard handed over some 3,676 failed migrants, while 280 from the Bahamas, according to official figures. From October to August, the Coast Guard intercepted more than 4,600 Cubans, an almost sixfold increase over the entire previous year. The vast majority are released with notices to appear in immigration court or report to immigration authorities.
