A top Cuban diplomat said her government expects a more "realistic" approach to the embargo against Cuba, when officials meet on Wednesday for the third biannual meeting since talks resumed in 2022.

Speaking in Havana Tuesday, the Deputy Director of US Affairs at the Cuban Foreign Ministry, said her government sees a link between the increased migration figures and the current sanctions against the government.

Representatives from both countries will meet in Washington, DC, as part of a program of biannual meetings to evaluate migration agreements. The talks come after 2022 marked a record high in migration when some 300,000 Cubans arrived in the southern border of the United States.
