Critical workers will need to test every working day, the British government announced on Tuesday, to protect essential services and supply chains, while avoiding going into another lockdown amid rising omicron variant infections.
Speaking at a COVID-19 response briefing, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that in light of the huge numbers of infections "anyone who thinks our battle with COVID is over, I'm afraid is profoundly wrong" and added that the government is planning on calling back teachers who had left the profession to fill absences caused by individuals having to self-isolate. He did not announce further restrictions, but asked for people to keep observing current measures, which include working from home if possible and wearing masks on public transportation and some indoor settings.
