Crackdown on Online Frauds: Operation in Mong Yai Township of Shan State (North)

Authorities have arrested those involved in illegal online gambling and fraud cases in Mongha area of Mong Yai Township of Shan State (North).

The government is actively working for eliminating the online gambling and fraud cases in cooperation with international community.

On February 5th, the security forces carried out operation in Mongyai Township, having armed exchanged with the security members of illegal online scam team. This operation led to the arrest of 5 members of an illegal online scam team, along with 6 various weapons, 8 Chinese nationals, 7 Myanmar citizens and 2 bodies. Authorities also seized 181 phones, 25 laptops, 21 desktops, 28 keyboards, 2 Wifi devices, 2 StarLink sets, commercial electrical accessories, 1 gun and 5 bullets from 7 buildings near Naung Han Village.

In a separate operation in the vicinity of Naung Han village on 6th February, 9 Chinese, 18 Vietnamese and 27 Myanmar citizens were arrested, along with 72 sets of computer, 5 StarLink devices, 79 phones, 5 video game consoles and 2 vehicles used in illegal online fraud activities.

On the 7th, 11 Chinese nationals were apprehended near Naung Han village, along with an Alphard vehicle and a generator. Those arrested in the incidents are under systematic investigation and legal action will be taken in line with the law. Efforts will also be made to facilitate the repatriation of foreign nationals to their home countries, in the spirit of humanitarian concerns and mutual friendship.
