Crackdown on Online Frauds: Efforts to eradicate illegal activities in border areas

The government is accelerating the investigation to expose online fraud and online gambling which have been on the rise at the border areas in collaboration with the neighbouring countries and international communities.

On 16th March, a total of 163 foreign nationals were detained due to their engagement in online fraud and online gambling at Myawaddy-Mae Htaw Tha Lay and KK Park area. Necessary information and records were compiled to deport the detainees to their respective countries promptly.

Kayin State Security and Border Affairs Minister Colonel Min Thu Kyaw and officials inspected the data compiling and collecting process and gave necessary instructions. From 30th January to 16th March 2025, a total of 6,599 illegal foreign nationals were detained and 3,588 of them have been deported to their respective countries via Thailand in line with the existing laws and procedures.

The rest of the foreign nationals under detention are in good care and ready to be deported. Most of the detainees are Chinese citizens and the rest of them are from Indonesia, Viet Nam, Malaysia, Pakistan, India, Uganda, Ethiopia, Nepal, Thailand, Japan, Rawanda, Kenya, Kazakhstan, Cambodia, Ghana, Bangladesh and Chinese (Taipei).
