Crackdown in Myawady: Efforts to eradicate online scam and fraud cases

Investigations have been made to identify foreign nationals engaging in online frauds, online gambling and unlawful acts in Myawady- Shwe Kokko and KK Park area. From 30th January to 15th February, a total of 799 foreign nationals have been detained. Among them, 61 foreign nationals have been transferred to Thailand on 31st January in line with the existing rule and regulations. In addition, a total of 738 foreign nationals have been detained on 11th, 14th and 15th February and the necessary records and resumes are compiled to transfer them to their respective countries. These illegal foreign nationals are citizens of various countries including China, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Ethiopia, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Viet Nam, Uganda, Thailand and China (Taipei).

Trafficked Victim, Jiangsu, said " One of my friends deceived me to work in Thailand with high paying job and I was sent to Myanmar."

Trafficked Victim, said " I was told that I will have a job in Thailand but I was trafficked to Myanmar. I worked online and computer related jobs at a company for one year but the company didn’t pay my salary."

Trafficked Victim, Guangdong, said " I was on my vacation in Laos. And one of my friends told me that I will have a high paying job in Thailand. I worked computer related job without being paid."

Trafficked Victim, Jiangxi, said " I came from Jiangxi to work in Thailand but I was transferred to Myanmar without my consent. I work at a beauty salon and my husband work at a restaurant. They promised us to pay 15,000 yuan per month but we only received 15,000 Bhat per month."

Myanmar is making collaborative efforts with the relevant countries to accelerate the process of identifying the foreign nationals engaged in online frauds, online gambling and unlawful acts to transfer them to their respective countries.
