In Myanmar, corn cultivation has increased and the Ministry of Commerce reported that during 2021-2022, 2.6 million tons of corn were exported and it earned 536 million USD. Myanmar Pulses, Beans, Maize and Sesame Seeds Merchants Association (MPBMSMA) expects about 3 million tons of corn can be exported in 2022-2023.
Advisor, Soe Win Maung, MPBMSMA said "Myanmar exports corn to Thailand, the Philippines, Viet Nam, Bangladesh and China. In the past, corn was mostly exported to the People's Republic of China, and now to China and Thailand. When exporting to Thailand, there are regulations for example taxes are free from February to August. So, in the coming February, exportation will be better."
According to the chairman of Myanmar Pulses, Beans, Maize and Sesame Seeds Merchants Association (MPBMSMA), Myanmar and China have signed the GACC registration and trading processes are smooth. Chairman of the Myanmar Highway Freight Transportation Services Association (MHFTSA) explained corn export process.
Chairman, Kyin Thein, MHFTSA said "When corn exportation from Shan State (South) is completed, corn from Ayeyawaddy region will be exported through Myawaddy. Currently, there are difficulties in transportation. The main buyer is China and it’s via sea route. Corn from other regions and states are transported to Yangon to export to foreign markets and to distribute in Yangon as food for chicken."
Corn from Shan State (South) is mainly exported to China and Thailand through border gates. This year corn market is in good situation and border trading has been developing, it’s reported.
