China’s Special envoy for climate change has called for enhanced multilateral cooperation on climate change on the sidelines of the 29th session of the conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), or COP29, which kicked off in Azerbaijan’s capital city of Baku on Monday.
The conference, scheduled for Nov 11-22, will also focus on such topics as global carbon trading markets, as well as global energy transition from fossil fuels. Leading the Chinese delegation to COP29, Liu Zhenmin, appointed as China’s special envoy for climate change in January 2024, said he expected that consensus can be reached on a series of key topics during the conference.
He pointed it out that it is essential for countries across the world to demonstrate their determination in supporting multilateralism and multilateral cooperation on climate change against the backdrop of a complex and volatile world.
