Coordination Meeting: Vice President Attends Meeting On Awarding Religious Titles

Coordination meeting of the Patron Committee and Steering Committee for holding the ceremony to offer religious titles and donate dry rations, was held at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture in Nay Pyi Taw, Monday. Vice President U Myint Swe in his capacity as Chairman of Patron Committee delivered a speech at the meeting.

In his address, the Vice President said that a five-member patron committee led by Vice President as chairman and a 20-member steering committee led by Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture as chairman was formed by Presidential order No. 22/2020 on 28th January 2020 to successfully hold the ceremony.

On 29th January 2020, a work committee and 11 sub-committees were formed to assign duties and responsibilities to conduct the works successfully and systematically.

The Union government’s ceremony to offer religious titles and donate dry rations will be held in two parts. The first part, a ceremony to donate “soon” will be held on 6th March 2020. The second part of offering religious titles and donating dry rations will be held on 8th March on the full moon day of Tabaung at the Sasana’s Maha Beikman in the compound of the Uppatasanti Pagoda in Nay Pyi Taw.

He called for the work committee and sub-committee members to work together based on the experience of past years’ ceremonies. He also stressed on systematic arrangement for transportation of State Sangha Mahanayaka Sayadaws, their accommodation, offering “soon” and provision of healthcare for the sayadaws.

He urged the steering committee, work committee and sub-committees to openly discuss progress of sector wise works, future plans, difficulties they are facing and suggestions for holding the ceremony.

Next, officials and the sub-committees reported on the ongoing work status and future programs, invitation to the sayadaws and their respective-wise implementations. The meeting then ended with a concluding remark by the Vice President.
