Coordination Meeting: Preparations for possible cyclonic storm discussed

The coordination meeting with regions and states head officers of the public health and medical service department, hospital medical superintendants for the cyclonic storm that can occur in Bay of Bengal was held on 7th May at the Ministry of Health, Nay Pyi Taw with the attendance of Union Minister for Health Dr. Thet Khine Win.

At the meeting, the Union Minister conveyed the guidance of the SAC Vice Chairman Deputy Prime Minister at the emergency work coordination meeting of National Disaster Management Committee, the preparations, emergency response and rehabilitation work processes are needed to implement from the region and state level to the villages.

Regarding with the disaster of possible cyclone storm, the preparation works should be carried out not only for the regions and states that can be on the track of storm but also for the regions and states that are least possible of the disasters, if necessary, the pre-arrangement of moving the resources from a region to another in time.

It is also needed to collect purified drinking water, chlorine tablets and powders so as to distribute to the disaster area to avoid the water borne diseases. Moreover, sanitation and personal hygiene, medicines and medical equipments, Disaster Medical Kits, Family Kits, Clean Delivery Kits and the Dignity Kits are needed to prepare to distribute to rural health centers, the regions and states public health and medical service departments.

It is also need to link and cooperate with the Tatmadaw Medics. The Public Health Emergency Operations Center of the Ministry and the regions and states have also been activated, and it’s needed to communicate with them in timely manner.

Next, the deputy minister professor Dr. Aye Tun clarified necessaries in related sectors and the directors general of public health department, medical service department, deputy directors general, and chair of Myanmar Red Cross Society, regions and states head officers public health and medical service and the hospital superintendants explained the preparation measures of the relevant sectors. After giving a speech of conclusion by the Union Minister, the meeting was concluded.
