Coordination Meeting: Meeting for improvement of rivers held

A coordination meeting on improving the navigability of the Ayeyawady River at the entrance to Mandalay City and on the riverbank protection works of the Dokhtawadi River was held at the meeting hall of the Mandalay Region Government Office on January 13.

At the meeting, Region Chief Minister U Myo Aung, stated that the development of the Mandalay Port waterway and the improvement of its navigation conditions are being carried out annually as per the budget allocation. Regarding the riverbank protection works on the Ayeyawady and Dokhtawadi Rivers, he emphasized the need to ensure effective protection and to calculate and implement the works in a cost-effective manner. He also stressed the importance of all parties collaborating and working together to prevent siltation and to further develop and improve the water transport sector. He added that necessary requirements are being addressed.

Subsequently, Deputy Director-General (Operations) U Tun Naing Win and Director (Department of Waterway Maintenance Works) U Zaw Lwin from the Department of Water Resources and Development of River System explained the current status of ongoing projects and the future project plans.

Following that, members of the Region Government members supplemented and discussed the presentations. The Region Chief Minister then coordinated and facilitated the fulfillment of necessary requirements before delivering concluding remarks, it is learned.
