In a coordination meeting held on Saturday, aimed at boosting the production of oil crops, Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock, and Irrigation, U Min Naung emphasized the imperative of achieving target yields for local sufficiency. He urged for cooperation and collaboration among stakeholders to ensure success in achieving target yields, facilitating loan disbursement, and seizing market opportunities.

In the previous fiscal year of 2023-2024, a Pilot Project for cultivating three different oil crops was successfully implemented, utilizing inputs provided by the State Economic Promotion Fund.

Furthermore, loan disbursements were facilitated, with 300,000 kyats allocated for one acre of peanut cultivation, 150,000 kyats for one acre of sesame, and 200,000 kyats for one acre of sunflower cultivation. Contracts were signed with oil millers to ensure the provision of agricultural inputs.

Plans are being made for implementation of an oil crop cultivation zone starting 2024-2025 fiscal year, with drafting of special action plans to further boost oil crop production and achieve sufficiency in edible oil starting from the 2025-2026 fiscal year. Zoning cultivation of oil crops will commence in the upcoming 2024-2025 fiscal year as part of these plans.
